Rural Tourism: visit to Ancestral House of S.Bhagat Singh (khatkar kalan)

16-Sep-2017

Journey starts to Khatkar kalan ,

About Village Khatkar Kalan:

Khatkar Kalan  is a village just outside Banga town in Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar in the Indian state of Punjab. This place is famous for the memorial of Sahid Bhagat Singh, an Indian freedom fighter, who was born in Banga Pakistan (before 1947 it was Pakistan after partition it became part of India) in 1907 and after whom the district is also named.

About S.Bhagat Singh :

Bhagat Singh was a prominent freedom fighter and an inspirational icon in the Indian freedom struggle. He gave a new direction to the National Movement against the British rule.
Bhagat Singh was born on 28 September 1907 at Lyallpur district (now in Pakistan) to a patriotic father, Kishan Singh who was in jail even at the time of his birth. His uncle, Sardar Ajit Singh was a great freedom fighter who established Indian Patriot’s Association.
Thus, patriotism was in his blood. He was associated with many revolutionary organizations and played a key role in the Indian Nationalist Movement. He is often called as “Shaheed Bhagat Singh” as the supporters and followers of this legendary accorded him the title of “Shaheed” meaning “Martyr” after he sacrificed his life for the nation. He became a prominent leader of the “Hindustan Social republican Association” in the year 1928.

Attractions :

Museum

The village khatkar kalan is located approx 40 km from Jalandhar on Nawanshahar - Banga Road. The museum is located just on the side of main road. Several photos and few personal things are displayed in museum.
The ancestral house of Shaheed Bhagat Singh is in village just a km away from museum. The old house and few things in house are now well preserved. The doors are locked by glass doors and we can see the inside part through the glass.

The Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum opened in the village on the 50th anniversary of his death. Exhibits include Singh's half-burnt ashes, the blood-soaked sand, and the blood-stained newspaper in which the ashes were wrapped. A page of the first Lahore Conspiracy Case's judgement in which Kartar Singh Sarabha was sentenced to death and on which Singh put some notes is also displayed as well as a copy of the
Bhagavad Gita with Bhagat Singh's signature, which was given to him in the Lahore Jail, and other personal belongings.

Visit to my friend's farmhouse in Rahon :

me and my group had visited my friend Shubham Nayyar's farmhouse just to experience the lifestyle of the village and routine works , It was an amazing experience over their we had lots of knowledge about the village lifestyle , he served us welcome drink (Lassi) , he took us to the field and gave detail information about Rahon. There are more than 150 temples in Rahon , Gurudwara Baba Bhai Sikh ji, Suraj Kund, Sati Mata Bhagwan Devi Mandir are few of them,we enjoyed a lot over their had grate experience .

 EXPERIENCE:

Thanks a lot to our Faculty Dr.Madhumita Mukherjee for giving us opportunity to experience the real village life through Assignment , I know the assignment consist of only 30 marks but what we experienced through this is more than everything, its an unique experience with my friends, Khatkar Kalan and Rahon both place are having great history ,
Talking about Khatkar Kalan village where Ancestral House of S.Bhagat Singh is located , the reason of its unpopularity is unawareness of the place , people who are travelling to nawashahar or chandigarh are mostly visiting S.Bhagat Singh Museum only, they are not aware about the Ancestral House of S.Bhagat Singh because it is bit away from main road and not highlighted so state government tourism department should focus on this thing because its a very big thing that we have this historical  place with us and still most people are not aware about it.
Talking about Rahon we experienced farming activities over their and enjoyed a lot.
